Camp Mercer 2024
The summer is upon us: sponsor a child and change a life!
Summer is a time of adventure for many kids, with families traveling to the beach or attending camp. Unfortunately, for children experiencing housing instability, summer can mean hunger and loneliness. That is where HomeFront steps in to make a difference. Thanks to the support of our caring community, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for these children to learn, grow, and make lasting friendships.
Camp Mercer, our eight-week day camp hosted through the Lawrence Community Center, serves children aged 5-15, providing them with opportunities to try new activities, uncover talents, and build self-confidence. Mornings are devoted to academics, taught as creatively as possible, and the afternoons are devoted to fun and relaxation. Sadly, government funding for children’s programming and summer camps is limited, and so we must rely on the generosity of our supporters to continue this vital work. With your help, HomeFront can ensure that every child has a summer to remember, filled with joy, laughter, and priceless experiences. Camp Mercer, with an average daily attendance of more than 100, is designed just for them. We provide transportation, along with breakfast and lunch. Each morning, reading, science and math are taught to prevent a summer-vacation “learning lag.” The afternoons include activities such as athletics, arts and crafts, gardening and swimming.
Camp is free to HomeFront kids, so we can make sure that each child has the chance at a summer of fun! But to do that, community support is needed. It costs only $250 to sponsor a camper for a week and $2,000 for the full eight weeks. We also have our Amazon wish list, which is full of items to assist us with providing an amazing, enriching summer camp.
