We believe with the right tools, all families can succeed.
In order for families to become—and, as importantly, remain—stable, they must be self-sufficient. HomeFront’s Hire Expectations program helps clients achieve this goal by building on their strengths, while also overcoming any educational, employment or other barriers hindering their progress toward long-term stability.
Hire Expectations
Based at HomeFront’s Family Campus, Hire Expectations includes WorkFirst services, the state's program for clients referred to us by the Mercer County Board of Social Services (those off-site who travel to the Family Campus and those on-site in residence). Hire Expectations is also offered to other shelter residents and alum.
- The first step for all is an in-depth evaluation, to ascertain the client's personal goals, interests and talents, educational needs, and employment challenges.
- Together, the client and staff craft a plan that builds on the individuals’ skills and passions that will help them forge a path to personal economic stability. With intensive support from caring and trained staff, the program focus on two major areas:
Hire Expectations helps clients wherever they are in their educational progress and prepares them for the high school equivalency test. The program’s goal is to match the client’s learning style with our educational resources, which includes one-on-one tutoring, class instruction, online courses, and Zoom distance instruction. Our testing center at HomeFront’s Family Campus provides students with the opportunity to take the equivalency test onsite and as soon as they are ready.
One concrete way our clients can improve their employment situation is to obtain specialized credentials that match their desired career path. Hire Expectations offers onsite and online training for SORA security officer certification, Microsoft Office, customer service, childcare and hospitality. Hire Expectations also helps with training opportunities, mentoring, and job placement. As clients set out to meet with our network of local employers of choice, we make sure they are ready to put their best foot forward with comprehensive resumé, interviewing and job readiness preparation.
Adding to our Clients’ Toolkits for Success
In addition to Hire Expectations’ educational and employment assistance, the program provides a wide array of formal and informal trainings so our clients can be their “best selves” in life.
- Topics are varied and include creative problem-solving, leadership skills, self-motivation techniques and improved communication.
- In addition to helping clients move toward positivity, Hire Expectations staff is also adept at addressing potential barriers, such as outstanding legal issues, access to childcare, and others.
